Khanom is famous for its environement. Coasting the gulf of Thailand, fishing is the economic resource number 1 in the area. It s a way for locals to sustain and provide food to their family and circle.
Net fishing: If you walk along the beach, you will probably notice local fishing with a net. It s happening very early morning and late afternoon from the beach. The principle is simple: one person is holding the net from the beach and another person is making a half circle in the water. Then they pull out the net together slowly in order to trap the fishes at the centre of the net.
This technique is very easy to use and can be very productive. (name of fishes)
Usually these kind of fishes are used to make soup or simply for deep frying.

Squid Fishing by night: It s very easy to identify squid fishing boats. They are using powerful bright or green light to attract the squids. Squids are quiet easy to catch because of their abundance in the area. Usually, Thai fishermen are using a traditional long tail boat to hunt them.
After finding the right position, the fisherman flicks a switch and the boat and surrounding waters are bathed in a brilliant light. Then the squid simply swim to the top of the surface and the fisherman trap them into their nets.
Crab Catching: The quality of the crab in Khanom is very high. There is different crab varieties such as ….. You will probably notice them in the numerous daily markets of the city. Crab catching technique is based on setting up cages deep in the water. Usually, fishermen set them up late afternoon and check them up the day after in the morning. They are using fish pieces as bait. Crabs will then go into the cage but will be trap as they can t go out.
Long tail line fishing: Probably the most popular technique in the area. The Gulf of Thailand is having many species such as red and white snapper, mackerel, barracuda, trevally, pomfret…Their size is various but it can exceed 4-5 kilos.
